I was going to draw a crowd scene in front of the stage for this one, then realised it was both easier and funnier not to :D

Not really a prank per se but I wanted to do something a little special for April Fools. The most common question I got about the McJefferstein Hypercrime Saga was "when is this going to end?", but it had its fans. If you were one of them; this is for You

It's actually a two-page story! You can see the second page by voting for Neko the Kitty at Top Web Comics

I'll be putting the second page into the archive and moving the story to a chapter break once Neko the Kitty updates on Monday, but I we want the votes because the board resets today and I reckon we can make the front page and stay there this month :)

My falling out with former co-writer and Original Basis for Jeff is well-documented, but killing him off in a throwaway remark from one of the cats wasn't really fair to the character or the readers. The comic Jeff wanted to write was funny, in a directionless freewheeling sort of way, but it was about his own avatar character and he wanted to turn him into a bit of a Mary Suepervillain. I had to really fight him to write about the cats, which I feel are an important part of why people read, you know, Neko the Kitty

We didn't fall out over the comic by the way, it was an entirely more stupid argument. Something probably worth sharing though is that I dwelled on that argument for years and ultimately got rid of it with four months of a fairly low dosage of prozac. Getting upset over a breakup or the destruction of a friendship is normal and healthy (and this shit was completely pointless and went down a couple of weeks after my grandmother died so the whole thing was a bit of a mental health coup de grace), but if it goes on forever there's a good chance it's actually a disease which can be treated with medicine so, you know, Love Your Brain.

The original idea for the McJ story ended up with a big showdown between Hubris and McJefferstein at Fat Kid's Fun Town, where they'd skip the line for every ride because everyone just assumes the costumed characters are part of a floor show and lets them pass. They go on all the rollercoasters over the course of a protracted chase/fight scene and then the hand grenade goes off in the ball pit. The whole story was being written towards that image, I didn't think it'd take as long as it did. In the end they were going to wind up being hired by the park as entertainers and all the charges against them dropped, because everyone loves Jeff and his zany antics.

Mary Suepervillain.

In hindsight I'm actually pretty pleased with Things Get Weird Act 3, which was mostly written solo or with Paige.

I heard real-Jeff is married now so hopefully he's a better person now than he was in 2011 and that'll all work out.

So that's how Jeff died What's up with the tongue? Is that a side effect of the all-mallow cereal?

Yeah the colour changing tongue was established in the original McJefferstein story

I always loved the way he played with his speech balloon. Is there a Bummy in this strip? Besides the obvious one on the voting page I mean.

Thank you for this Seriously, thank you.

It's not the end I was expecting... hoping for... But it's a lot better than what was the ending. Honestly, I mightn't have been okay back when you wrote him out of the story if you'd done just anything... but anything, be it doing the bit you've mentioned, killing him off or simply having him arrested, would've hurt less.

I've continued to follow your work (albeit a bit sporadically as my own life hit ups and downs), but the off-screen death has always been the one negative point that stuck with me. I knew that you had your reasons, but I'm glad you've come back to this now, because it's helped wipe away that feeling.

One more time, thank you.
