So my brain's doing that thing where it won't let me draw comics I like. This happens every so often and generally goes away on its own if I take a break.

Reading a lot helps to get my brain fizzing properly again, so I'm looking for comics recommendations. I got my first proper payday from the new job and picked up a couple of books in my local comic shop. I got Persepolis because I've been meaning to read it for years, picked up volume 5 of Saga because volume 4 was the last comic book I bought last year before I stopped being able to afford them. I picked up volume 1 of Paper Girls as well because it's by the same writer as Saga.

I was also talking to the guy in the comic shop for a while and he recommended a book called Nimona, which I enjoyed greatly. It starts off with the titular Nimona, a teenage girl, turning up in the lair of supervillain knight Ballister Blackheart and declaring herself to be his sidekick, and goes from there.
Oh, and Nimona's a shapeshifter, and she's super murderous.
And Blackheart's Paladin Nemesis is called Sir Goldenloin.
And Blackheart and Goldenloin care about each other deeply.

It's weird, it's funny, and it's got a lot of heart. If you like Neko the Kitty you'll probably like Nimona, and if you can think of other comics (web or print) that fit the 'if you like Neko the Kitty' criteria please mention them below :)

Announcement Yellow Sticky is updating again! It's my doodle comic that I do on Post-It notes (or their generic equivalent) at work. It's pretty unplanned and unfiltered, but it's always the first thing to come back whenever I need to take a break from more formal cartooning. It's all done in ball point pen, I normally just draw an eye or a nose or something and then go from there.

It's all stuff I make without really thinking about it. There's always people who like stuff like that better than my more deliberate work though. Talking to my writer and artist friends that's apparently pretty common, so Enjoy, I guess

Ooh, Saga's really good! I need to pick up more of them.
Unfortunately, I'm out of the loop when it comes to comics. The best I've gotten is some pretty juvenile ones like Doctor Who, Steven Universe and the occasional My Little Pony.

Um, I did try out Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, a comic based on Douglas Adams' novel of the same name. It's pretty good, though I haven't read past the first issue.

It might not be a comic book, but I suggest taking a look at the Dresden Files. It's a great series!

@Alkumyst: I also read the Dresden Files. They are amazing.

@Alkumyst: I will give the series a 3rd recommendation. I read through the entire series every year the month of October in celebration of Mr. Dresden's birthday

Comic Choices Persepolis was very good when I read it. Another one you might be interested in, if you like semi historical plot tied in with personal stories is Maus, by Art Spiegelman. It's based off of the artist's interviews with his father, who was a Polish Jew survivor of the Holocaust. A bit gritty at times but a very good read, overall!

Comics! I've never really read a whole lot of print comics, and the only two webcomics I keep up with anymore are this one and Between Failures which is an excellent bit of work about people who work in a failing retail store.

I really hope you get to feeling better soon, though. You do great work.

Everything good? Been over a month since a posting. Just sitting here checking the page daily because I love the comic so much.

Thanks for continuing to check up on me. I'm alright but my brain's just straight up not letting me continue with this storyline.
