According to Wikipedia "The most common description of the chupacabra is that of a reptile-like creature, said to have leathery or scaly greenish-gray skin and sharp spines or quills running down its back. It is said to be approximately 3 to 4 feet (1 to 1.2 m) high, and stands and hops in a fashion similar to that of a kangaroo." To which I say 'sexy' and 'pretty' aren't necessarily the same thing, and the media's got a fairly fucked up concept of beauty anyway.

We try to be socially progressive, we're just not terribly good at it.

I read quite a good book last week, The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan. It's about a pair of teenage brothers who are being hunted by wizards in modern-day Britain. The wizards get their powers by sacrificing people to demons, so they're bad news, though not necessarily unsympathetic the whole time. The World is very well-realised, the way Magic works makes sense, and the plot takes lots of lovely twists and turns. However what really elevated the book from fun pulp adventure to Probably Literature for me was the point-of-view character, Nick.

The narrator's a third-person voice which can wander around the world a bit, but usually never strays too far outside of Nick's head. Nick is the younger brother, he's sixteen years old and he reads like a traumatised teenager with learning disabilities. He's not stupid by any means, but he has trouble with language and emotion and is quite often a complete and utter bastard. He's not always likeable, but the story goes into his childhood quite a lot and he's a wonderfully realised product of his upbringing.

The Demon's Lexicon is Brennan's first published novel and the first part of a trilogy. I haven't read the other two books yet, but they're both out and are hitting the same 4-5 star reviews as the first book on Amazon. The author's also got a bunch of short stories and fan fiction up on her website if you like her style but don't want to stump up for the books.

Well, from what I understand, The general description of a chupacabra matches half the women on tv nowadays, so....

I have terrible memory, but uh... why do the three of them appear to be getting dressed? Do we want to know what happened since we last saw them?

I guess seeing as I asked, the answer to that last question is yes, we do want to know.
