Memory War came out on Kindle! It came out yesterday and I'm about a third of the way through it already. The hero had the absolute crap knocked out of him in the last chapter, and given that reincarnation and past life memories are central to the trilogy, I'm starting to wonder if he's going to survive to the end. He (she, in some incarnations) has died 'on-screen' several times over the course of the trilogy in past-life flashbacks, so it occurs to me that our point-of-view character may not be sacrosanct.

The hero and most personal villain have killed each other dozens of times in the past, and in this one we're seeing the beginning of their millennia-long feud in flashbacks, and its culmination in the present day. Death for the Reborn, as they're called, is still meaningful - centuries can pass between incarnations, memories can be lost forever, and every incarnation is still a new person (kind of like how The Doctor's regenerations work in Doctor Who, but with waaaaay more lag), so while I'm fairly certain of the hero winning in the end, I'm not sure what it's going to cost him.

The first and second books are also available on Kindle, and the second one's currently free as a promotion.

Book 3's cheaper than book 1 actually, so I think that might be a promotion too.

Today's vote incentive is a photo of our rescue kitten Luna wearing a tiny hat.

Reply VictorB, August 15th, 2014, 7:53 pm

@Takai: Puff the magic dragon lived by the sea and frollocked in the automn mist in a land called Hana Lee. (wonder where the "mist" and "puff" came from ;) )

@Tijopi11: That's Aya "Cause she looks like a ninja"

@FluffyLady: I swear cats think "Bad Kitty" means "Be chaotic now"

@TheCatMolloy: That dragon should call the Kitsune to deal with Murphey....muhahahah

Reply Juan (Guest), August 15th, 2014, 9:40 pm

Dude, that was _so_ not cool.

Reply GDA, August 15th, 2014, 10:19 pm

*facepalm* Dragon will eat you when it stops being crying fool.
And refrigerate the leftovers to eat later, because you're so fat that there's no way you're getting eaten in one sitting.

Reply Brock (Guest), August 16th, 2014, 12:13 pm

Leg? I must be crazy. Why is Aya missing a leg again? Wasn't she about to marry a dust bunny king?

Reply TheCatMolloy, August 16th, 2014, 2:06 pm

It's shorthand for 'quite a lot has happened between then and now'.

Reply BloodTakanaka (Guest), August 16th, 2014, 4:28 pm

Poor sensitive Rremly... Murphy's so mean.... and now he's getting the "I will kill you" ninja look.

Reply The Constable, August 16th, 2014, 7:10 pm

Aya was my favorite catharsist char next to baxter and the red ball of dust

Reply VictorB, August 17th, 2014, 2:16 am

wait, is that a bummy in the first panel in the tree?

Reply FeatherQuillInkpot (Guest), August 17th, 2014, 9:06 am

@VictorB I think I spotted Bummy in one of the bushes in the last panel.

Reply Nice-ness, August 17th, 2014, 9:53 am

Making a dragon cry? *smh*

Reply ZDW (Guest), August 17th, 2014, 10:11 pm

Dragon biology clearly says dragons fly with the aide of gas(I forgot what one but its really light and flammable) that they produce by digesting meat. So feed Rremly because he would be low on gas after getting loss and going so far beyond what they thought they would

AHAHAHAHAHA lol I get it. Short-HAND for a lot of time has passed between here and now? lololol (@TheCatMolloy's comment)

I like the look on Murphy in the last one. Everyone is staring at him, and he is all "What did I say?"

Reply Gabb (Guest), August 22nd, 2014, 9:19 pm

Keno Cooper's ear If I remember correctly, it was Tennibrook that took that notch out of Keno's ear when she tried to shave him.

Reply e.e (Guest), August 23rd, 2014, 10:21 am

also you don't see keno's cut in the first panel just saying

Reply TheCatMolloy, August 23rd, 2014, 11:29 am

It's there. After a heck of a lot of continuity errors, the cut finally settled on his left ear.

Reply Licourtrix, August 23rd, 2014, 10:42 pm

@TheCatMolloy I love continuity errors, though I guess they're a form of torture for artists.

I feel so smart when I notice something different. It's an ego boost, even though a defibrillator would be necessary for mine, the pleasant jolt of the occasional "spot the bug" in the comic is always fun, though I guess I'm fortunate in being able to look past them to see the comics for the awesome comics they are.

Spotting Bummy though is essential. They end up dead all the time now, but they must be watched lest they take over.

Quick, collect the dragon tears, they're super valuable! Poe should know all about it.

EDIT: Hello Mr. Gnome-in-a-tree.

Reply squ1rrels (Guest), August 25th, 2014, 11:10 am

@TheCatMolloy: I just noticed a while back when I voted Luna looks almost exactly like my cat Solomon. Are they long lost twins?

Reply ZDW (Guest), August 26th, 2014, 2:21 am

a mix of hydrogen and methane are a gases dragons use to fly and breath fire

had to re-look it up

Reply VictorB, August 26th, 2014, 3:50 pm

@ZDW: So they fly off of vaporized water and farts? I get that they are both flammable gasses, and hydrogen is the lightest substance available, but it sounds a little far fetched.

Logically speaking, they'd have to drink water and eat stuff like beans to get back into the air and fart to get back down. Plus, breathing fire would ruin their ability to fly...

I have heard many theories on how they fly, but this seems in the second category of least logical ones.

Reply Connors, August 26th, 2014, 6:43 pm

@VictorB :

Farts are methane gas. I have heard of theories as to how a real creature might breathe fire, however, and it's interesting stuff. :L

Reply e.e (Guest), August 26th, 2014, 8:06 pm

Is it on youtube?

Reply ZDW (Guest), August 26th, 2014, 9:36 pm

I think I might of gotten the wrong word from the spelling correction

it was on a documentary I saw on YouTube called "The Last Dragon" they did scans on a dragon corpse and had some cgi story of a young dragon (fuller to help keep people entertained)

Updates? So, when does this comic update normally? Or is it a case of we'll get it as soon as it's done?

Reply TheCatMolloy, September 2nd, 2014, 2:08 am

It normally updates a couple of times a week. If it doesn't then that's usually related to the recurring frank and open discussion of depression that goes on around here fairly frequently.

So...as soon as it's done.

It'll be announced on the Facebook page when the next strip is up, so now's as good a time as any to click in to that. The big 'Facebook' button up at the top left of the site will take you to the NtK Facebook page.

Reply Lycos (Guest), September 2nd, 2014, 6:30 am

@ZDW: If dragons existed, they wouldn't actually fly using gasses, they'd fly via their wings. The gasses they produce are for their flaming breath. That whole "The Last Dragon" thing is merely someone trying to make a mockumentary.
