My god... This must be the first time we've seen the Catharsis crew in years!

Reply zdw (Guest), August 4th, 2014, 10:52 pm

a good bus company or is it a sub brunch off the evil empire that owns fat kid (teleports buses full of loss people to random places in the world for shits and giggles)

Reply VictorB, August 5th, 2014, 12:07 am

huh? For those who didn't get to see what happened to the Neko kids when they were adopted, assuming that the dragon refers to Aya's other adventures, could you please let us know what's happening?

Oh and "Trainwreck"? really?

EDIT: hahaha I was wondering what that was.. thanks for the vote incentive

@VictorB Okay, back when the kittens were originally adopted, Aya was adopted by the comic Catharsis(which, sadly, stopped a long time ago). The comic Catharsis's main character had two personas: the responsible adult and the fun-loving child, and would literally shift between being a full-grown adult to being about 8-10 years old. Rremly the dragon was one of the... pets isn't the right word, roommates is closer, of our main character. There was also a squirrel, a few dust-bunnies(Bitey was my favorite), and hijinks were had by all.

My favorite Catharsis memory came from after the squirrel had to be shaved(and sorry for just making vague references, it's been a LONG time, and I'm bad with names) and the main character's child-like persona came out. She then started running around with the hair-clippers, trying to shave whatever critters she could. Aya jumped straight up and held onto the light. After a while, she starts commenting about smelling burnt hair, and then realizes it's herself. "Note to self: Light makes heat. I love learning!" The next strip, she's commenting about barely being able to hold on, middle panel, you see Aya hanging from the light and a speech bubble from below reading: "Here kitty, kitty, kitty..." and a "Click, bzzzzzz." Third panel is still Aya: "I find my strength renewed by the voice of a child."

Catharsis was probably the comic that made the best use of the adopted kitten from Neko the Kitty, in that Aya became a full-fledged member of the main cast. Unfortunately, the server and the creator's computer both died horribly, so it's one of the great lost webcomics of the 2000's.

The action took place almost entirely inside an apartment, which belonged to an imaginative (though somewhat lonely) woman named Gwen. Gwen would occasionally transform into her ten-year-old alter-ego Tennibrook, who was a high-energy avatar of pure chaos.

Gwen/Tennibrook's lifelong companion was Rremly, a dragon who retained his childlike innocence despite being over 3,000 years old. Most people saw Rremly as a dog of some kind, which worked along the same lines as the 'Somebody Else's Business' field in Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

They were joined by Baxter, the narcissistic narcoleptic squirrel, a tribe of Wild Cherries (who wore grass skirts and carried spears and made little 'tuk tuk' noises), and a colony of dust bunnies who lived under a recliner. There were three main dust bunnies - twins Romulus and Remus, and Bitey, who had great big teeth and a crush on Baxter.

The dust bunnies were engaged in an ongoing war with the Dust Mites (who looked a bit like Metroids), and had created a Dustbunny King for themselves to be their war leader. The Dustbunny King actually looked like a rabbit or hare (the regular dustbunnies were just little fluffy grey balls) and was a little bigger than Aya. There was a bit of a love triangle forming between Aya, Baxter, and the Dustbunny King when the site disappeared.

Anything that happened after that is personal headcanon, though I will say Aya had all four paws when Catharsis went offline.

Catharsis I love Catharsis = P

I would share the link I have to what's left of the website but I'm pretty sure doing so would block this comment from ever showing up.

@Iamnotreallyhere: You can't use HTML in user comments on SmackJeeves, but pasting a link directly works. There's some automated anti-spambot stuff, but for the most part deleting user posts is up to the discretion of me and the moderators. If you've got a link to surviving Catharsis comics then by all means share :)

EDIT: Also, Aya looks cute :3

@TheCatMolloy Thanks for having a better memory for names than I do. I can't believe I forgot about the tribe of Wild Cherries!

Reply morganheart (Guest), August 6th, 2014, 12:45 am

ooo does this mean that Aya is back to you now and we'll see more of her?

Reply TheCatMolloy, August 6th, 2014, 5:27 am

Aya's coming back in a recurring role similar to Poe. :)

Reply TaiyoPrower (Guest), August 6th, 2014, 7:09 am

Rremly!! Ah man, it's awesome to see him again!
... I really miss reading Catharsis. :(

@TheCatMolloy
Directly linking doesn't seem to work either unless there is a moderation system for such posts.

Didn't use HTML this time or the last =/

I actually have it all I actually saved all of the Catharsis comics before it went down from the internet. If the original author still want it of if there was someplace to send it without problem, i would gladly send it back!

It was a really fun comic!

Reply Saskyou, August 7th, 2014, 11:43 am

@TheCatMolloy But he's not really here. I'll carry out the mighty task of finding and pasting the link here.

I actually did it by the time I started writing this comment, so here:

Holy shit the whole Catharsis archive is there! FRICKIN' AWESOME!!

Reply gpremier (Guest), August 7th, 2014, 5:03 pm

Thanks for the Catharsis archive!

I'm looking for forrest dream studio webcomics like toonagers and furfire, but no luck there and the way back machine can't help much either. Does someone have them or know where to find them?

Reply Taiyo Prower, August 8th, 2014, 5:47 am

@Saskyou Dude! You are totally awesome for posting this! :D

Reply Saskyou, August 8th, 2014, 6:16 am

@gpremier
I'm about to message the creators of those comics; in the meanwhile, could you upload the archive to somewhere and send a link to admin@ardusk.net?
I'd like to try and work some magic with it, or at least read it comfortably without laggy time machines ;3

Update: I've messeged the authors of Furfire and Toonagers only to find out five minutes later that the author (http://ginnijisan.tumblr.com/) had made it publicly available. I'll post the comics somewhere during the weekend, as I'd want to avoid flagging her Dropbox by sending a crowd.

@TheCatMolloy, is there a way I could do this without (going completely off-topic|imitating advertisements)?

Reply Gpremier (Guest), August 8th, 2014, 10:51 am

Sure! Althought i'm not used to hosting site, most of them are full of virus now and everything. What would be the best site to sent the archive to to? Dropbox?

I can also send it to you and whoever else want it by email directly if you want.

By the way, if you seek others dead comic archive beside Catharsis, just tell me, i have a good collection of them!

Reply Saskyou, August 8th, 2014, 12:15 pm

@gpremier
I feel like we're going way too off-topic here, drop me an email and we'll talk more about it.
Anyone else interested can also email me.

This might just turn into a full-fledged project...

Reply Saskyou, August 10th, 2014, 3:49 am

Wait a sec... Wasn't Rremly golden?

Reply gpremier, August 10th, 2014, 5:41 am

@Saskyou

No, it's the right color scheme that is used for Rremly. Maybe his horn rarely shined but that's it.

By the way, did you get my last email with the link?

Reply The Constable, August 10th, 2014, 9:24 pm

Is there any hope of catharsis coming back? i hope so i read it with the wayback machine and i love it :/

Reply gpremier, August 11th, 2014, 4:27 am

@The Constable I wouldn't bet on it. It's been gone for a long time and the author didn't refer to it once since it's been gone. I tried to contact her about it but no answer. She's up to other stuff in life now like crafting and geckos.

Reply The Constable, August 11th, 2014, 6:38 am

*SPOILER*It sucks i want to know if baxter gets aya or not D:
