Today, Cosmo the Quote Bunny is quoting Bertrand Russell.

Another attempt at verse, and Aleister's talking from experience here. I think we've told you the fate of Larry the Goldfish here before, so you can skip ahead if this is familiar.

Larry was about seven years old. Sarah (my ex) had rescued him from a former roommate who hadn't cleaned his bowl or fed him in months (she was actually surprised to see him still alive in the near-opaque water when the roommate moved out), so she cleaned out his bowl, ultimately getting him a new tank, and left him with me when we separated a couple of years later. I characterised Larry as a grumpy old man. He just had that look about him. Also it was fun to pretend his opening-and-closing his mouth produced an endless string of vitriolic obscenities.

For nearly two years Aleister never bothered Larry, until one morning we woke up and Larry was lying on the hallway rug. We thought he was dead, but his gill twitched when Paige picked him up, and we put him back in his tank. His fins were fairly shredded and he was missing a lot of scales, but after a little while he started swimming upright and grumbling away.

He was still going when Paige got home from work that day, and an impressed Paige, knowing Larry had survived some tough times in his past, officially declared him immortal.

Whereupon he promptly died.

We kept the tank, and a couple of months later we got a bunch of new fish and taped the lid of the tank shut so Aleister couldn't get to them.

Reminds me of Vani and Marco... Vani was my cat, may she rest in peace. Marco was a Budgie or Parakeet that I had. Marco loved it when I would leave his cage open and put a stick relating his cage to a plant. Guess he said to himself "Advencha" anyways, Vani wouldn't bother Marco but Marco did have a hanging bell toy in his cage... Vani would wait until Marco left the cage, then reach in and claw at the toy, making it ring.... confusing Marco in the process.
