As usual, don't forget to vote at Top Web Comics to see today's Whitespace Neko bonus panel.

Of everything I've tried, I think I like digital colouring best for the characters. Pencils look good in the original art, but the marks are too visible in the scans. Watercolours don't 'pop' enough for cartoon art. I think the less saturated watercolour look works for backgrounds though.

honestly I think the pen coloring worked best for poe, but everyone else looks better digitally

Pencils have a place As a non-artist reader, when I see the pencil-color images, I don't think "eew, lines" or "hmm, pencil"... I mean I'm aware that it's a different process, but what it conveys is a different mood... or maybe a slightly different state of reality. It's great for flights of imagination, trips to alternate worlds, dream sequences, cutaways, etc.

I know some really cool tricks with paint pens, markers and colored pencils. The only problem I have with them is that mistakes are not as easily fixed as they are digitally.

I inked some of my pages five or six times because of some flaw or another, but it wasn't appreciated anyway so there was really no reason to put forth the greater effort.

Plus, OMG you can still see the pencil lines and the texture of the paper because I like doing odd things with transparency and smudge tools in photoshop. THe Horror.

I must seem strange because I wanted people to know some effort and energy went into the creation of my comics.

But, enough about me. I must say Poe is looking particularly awesome today in ball point. Is the background made with watercolor pencils or is it traditional watercolor?

I agree with shadow7127. Pencil does work better for Poe

Coloring Wow all these comments have cool ideas... I think I agree that the watercolors fit in the background. (although Poe's bright blue outline seems strange to me)
And auntmousie's idea of using different styles depending on the mood is interesting.
