I had a bout of insomnia last night and ended up watching Wreck It Ralph at 3 in the morning. I hadn't seen it since it was out in the cinema, so a lot of it was fresh. I first saw it in the cinema on my 30th birthday, and had forgotten how good it was.

I was preoccupied with some particularly nasty personal stuff at the time, so that first viewing didn't really sink in. Funny, because the film's all about a 30 year old man struggling with self-acceptance and his relationship with his peers.

“I’m bad and that’s good, I will never be good and that’s not bad, because there’s no one I’d rather be than me.”

I think "I am not a paragon" is one of those Big Realisations that sink in as you get older. I'm pretty severely screwed up, emotionally. Childhood trauma echoes loudly in the chasm of years I've crossed. Complicated relationships, loss and isolation, hair where there was no hair before, etc. etc. Basically I've got more baggage than Miss Piggy on a long vacation.

Everyone I know really well is the same. We've all been through hell at some point, and we've all come back with souvenirs. Abandonment issues, eating disorders, a strange and inexplicable fear of hedgehogs.

They're bad, and that's good, they will never be good, and that's not bad, there is no-one I'd rather them to be.

Anyway, this is what happens when I'm sleep-deprived. Don't forget to vote at Top Web Comics

Wow. Kemo is actually starting to sound smart.

"hair where there was no hair before" and no hair where there was hair before!

KENO HAZ GIANT BALLZ! That ship totally changed in every detail, and Neko gained a sword from one picture to the other; also, the sun got smaller, Neko got bigger...
Neko's imagination is trippy.

Screwed up people gotta stick together. Besides, regular people are just weird.

There is no such thing as sanity, just different levels of insanity

It's probably a good thing that Whitespace Neko can't go 'Turbo', think of the destruction he could cause if he got out (babies every where should beware)

What are you talking about. I'm 30 years old and I'm a total paragon of virtue. I've almost memorized the book of Matthew in the new testament, and I have rote answers for things like "what are your ethics?" morals? values? needs? etc.

I have some trouble memorizing virtues but most of them are just different B.S. sublimated answers with different words that mean the same thing as values.

Personally, I think there are people who get ethics like "productivity" confused with "usefulness" or confuse values like "respect" with "fear." I think things like "honesty," "loyalty" and "integrity" should have an asterisk attached indicating their frequent abuse.

You might want to read "T.A. For Tots volume 1 and 2" in order to mend the soul of the kitten whose heart was crushed by the yoke of injustice.

I don't have a fear of hedgehogs, nor Kermit's horror upon discovering Ms. Piggy was a transvestite. Although, I too have echo's of childhood trauma. My journey through hell was manifested in reverse order.

Quite honestly, I look forward conquering lust. Almost as much as I look forward to the realm of unbaptized children and philosophers.

Keno vs Neko it's amazing that Keno can stand equal to his dad. Neko always acts superior, however Keno is responding as if they we peers, rather than being more submissive (as his mother seems to be playfully submissive) or rebellious. I think this is awesome!

On a stranger note in Neko's sailor dream, is Keno a toilet with a head on a spring?

And elephant feet!

Without the emotionally traumatized, we'd have no art.

Reply GabrielsThoughts, April 13th, 2013, 5:22 am

@Grossaffe

I respectfully disagree. Based on what I know of therapy. Even if violence, war, injustice, scarcity, anxiety, fear, and contempt were eliminated there would still be a need for psychologists. As such, I see no reason why artists, as the engineers of mens souls, wouldn't be just as necessary the strategists.

Also, this would be a good time to point out that there __is__ a difference between behavioral engineering and out right manipulation. One is not coerced the other results in media like the post Rami "Spiderman" or "Friendship is Magic."

@NtKGar: I keep trying to pay you for that blog logo you did for me, but apparently Oklahoma doesn't exist according to PayPal. Not sure where to go from here...

LOVE the mushrooms face in the last panel and the hamster in the second panel vaguely reminds me of Hamtaro

@GabrielsThoughts
I think we're on different pages here. I was referring to the supply side rather than the demand. I was attempting a tongue-in-cheek implication that artists are emotionally traumatized, not that artists are needed because of emotional trauma.
