Two animated strips in a row! This is a five-frame cycle that takes 0.45 seconds. It was drawn the old-fashioned way, with the characters drawn in full for each frame.

Today, I'm going to crack open the 'Flash for Dummies' book I got and try to figure out the easy way to animate characters. I also want to sync the existing animations to music for YouTube, so keep the music recommendations coming! Bonus points if it's an independent artist :)

Let's see, what else?

Paige and I played Lords of Waterdeep over at a friend's house this week. I was the black faction (City Watch) I kept referring to my guys as 'Crows' and singing about sodomy (That's just the tune I was singing to, if you're worried about the risky click).

The game is a Dungeons & Dragons tie-in, you start with two anthropomorphic 'Lord' pieces (the sodomy song had an accompanying puppet dance), and you can earn either accept a quest, play an intrigue card, or earn gold or cubes by playing. Then everyone plays their second Lord piece and the turn ends when all the Lords are on the board. The cubes represent the adventurers you send to complete the 'quest' cards, which earn you points and/or bonuses.

The cubes are different colours, so it's also fun with racism as you send your adventurers to their death for fun and profit.

Whitespace Neko is extra wise today.

People have been asking about books recently. I'm thinking about it, but I need more input. Please take a moment to complete this survey. It's only eight questions, and one of them's a bonus Haiku round and is just for fun.

Well, yes, but... He's /consistently/ missing a leg so it was a choice rather than a mistake. ;)

Pah! Shaving, pah! Who shaves during the winter?

NtK In Print Hey Gar,

Is Neko the Kitty available in print? If not, how do we make this dream come true? I hear wonderful things about Kickstarter.

So she dies her leg hair?

Kickstarter @Layman: We've looked into Kickstarter, unfortunately us Irish types aren't welcome there yet, it's strictly for Americans.

Could you guys add a random button? Several other comics have it, and there is the 'top picks' thing but that gets boring after you've seen them all. A random button would be awesome because of my incredible skill of keeping myself entertained by using one to go back to earlier strip...things. If you know what I'm trying to say here >_<. Besides, couldn't be too hard to make?

Indiegogo @NtKPaige
Have you looked into IndieGoGo. It is an international version of kickstarter, and unlike KS you dont need to make your goal to keep the money you raised.

Reply NtKGar, February 24th, 2013, 2:56 am

Only taking peoples' money once the funding goal has been met is the main reason I'd want to go through Kickstarter. It's no muss no fuss if the project falls through.

If you've already taken the money, but don't meet your funding goal, you've got to either suck up the loss and produce a print run to fulfill your orders, or return everyone's money and take the PR hit for not getting your book out on time.

IndieGoGo is pretty much a third-party pre-order site, whereas Kickstarter is a third-party pre-order site that also acts as a financial safeguard if the project fails.

I've been referred to http://www.ingramcontent.com/ who offer Print on Demand for full-colour books at a good rate to publishers. There's no web interface for publishers or detailed pricing information though, so I've sent them an e-mail and am waiting to hear back.

HAIKU Fucking love haikus, haikus? is that correct? also why do you need to know the number of testicles possessed by your readers?

Reply Agen (Guest), February 25th, 2013, 12:15 pm

Reply Serafiron, March 14th, 2013, 2:08 am

@Serafiron: Thanks! The animation loops are fun to do :)

It'll be funny when he finally figures out that the best Flash animations are the ones where each frame is drawn the old-fashioned way, with the characters drawn in full for each frame.
