Level up.

Reply Cardias (Guest), February 15th, 2012, 4:19 pm

If Neko was hungry after eating a leg I would be mildly surprised.

Reply Thamix (Guest), February 15th, 2012, 4:21 pm

Gar, is pizza good for Neko to roll around in, what will it do to his fur D:!?

Reply PiMaster, February 15th, 2012, 8:36 pm

Your birthday? :O We must celebrate belatedly!

Reply fidgetofdoom, February 15th, 2012, 10:28 pm

Just call 'im Totinos! Cuz that kitteh is a Pizza Roll!

lol... Your kitteh art has always been a blast, but it really has gotten quite nice.

I love that this whole adventure turned out to be all about the "feed me" as that is EXACTLY what cats are all about. :P

I'll be sad to see Poe go... But I'm missing Keno and Murphy Action... I mean. um... Interaction?

Reply RaeofSunshine, February 16th, 2012, 12:19 am

and I missed it but cause your posting again I hope this means your feeling better?

So many cute kitty poses in this one! Love it. and the whole "feed me" thing is adorable too.

Happy belated birthday, Gar! Did you enjoy realizing that a third of your life has gone by and your greatest accomplishment in all that time is probably this comic?

This is your birthday song, it won't last very long.

I love neko

Reply NtKPaige, February 16th, 2012, 6:31 am

@Koren; Well, the comic has more than 500 registered fans, more than 1500 people a day reading it, and it's one of the reasons there's a woman who wants to marry him ;-) I think those are all great accomplishments :D

Reply NtKGar, February 16th, 2012, 6:43 am

@Koren: Kind of depressing, isn't it? My dissatisfaction with my regular job is well known at this point. NtK is the only real mark I've made on the world.

I'm glad I'm proud of it.

In my regular job I'm adding nothing of any value to the world. At least not as far as I can see. I'm not making people any happier, I'm not doing anything memorable, I'm just performing an assigned function. I could drop dead tomorrow and they'd just train someone else in to do my job and that'd be the end of it. Anybody could do what I do here.

With Neko...well...the audience isn't huge and it's not raking in cash for me yet, but it's something I have a passion for, something that's uniquely and unmistakably mine, and a bunch of people have noticed it. I may not be changing lives on a global scale, but at least I've brightened up a heck of a lot of days. In the drop-dead-tomorrow scenario, a bunch of people would be slightly bummed out that there'd be no new Neko the Kitty comics. They might even post something on Facebook before finding a new favourite comic.

It may not sound like much, but it's honestly more than I expected out of life. I've created a substantial body of work, and a lot of it's even good! I've been the architect of a million smiles. I've written lines friends have quoted at each other. A couple of people have told me I've inspired them to start their own webcomics. People have gotten tattoos. I'd have to be some kind of idiot not to take pride in that.

Also, Paige and I first got talking to each other because she liked the comic, so there's that :)

Maybe there's more to come. Maybe there's an audience in the hundreds of thousands waiting to find NtK. Maybe some of the philosophical content will really reach somebody and inspire or encourage them on their own adventure (maybe that's already happened?). Maybe there's an animated series that'll launch the careers of a couple of talented young voice actors and animators somwehere in the future. Maybe there's a merchandising empire that creates hundreds of jobs and provides a favourite childhood toy for a little girl in Auckland who grows up to play a pivotal role in the invention of a time dilation drive that allows faster-than-light travel across interstellar distances.

It could happen. No point dreaming small.

And that's what it comes down to. I've found my dream. In 'My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic' terms, my cutie mark has revealed itself. I've found something I really love to do that just wouldn't be the same if it was someone else doing it. People spend their entire lives looking for that kind of sense of purpose.

Now maybe there's no money in this. Maybe the only reward for all my hard work is the laughter of strangers. It's possible. It's even likely.

I'm inclined to find out.

And so I come to childhood's end and find, to my surprise, that I'm a romantic. That after 30 years of melancholy and self-doubt, a life characterised by despair can be defined by hope.

A third of my life has gone by, and my greatest accomplishment is the thing I've worked hardest on and cared most about. Feels good, bro. Feels real good.

@tails83: If the 83 means what I think it means, you're only a year younger than me!

Reply RoboKitty, February 16th, 2012, 10:21 am

Happy Birthday! @NtKGar: I find it really neat that you take so much pleasure in doing NtK. I really enjoy the comic and it's really nice when someone finds their lot in life. Kudos to you!

And don't forget that some people also make it their profile picture for EVERYTHING!

Level-up and cat attack Happy bleated Level-Up Day! You're closer to being like Mario and saving the princess. And why does Keno have his plastic magic hammer sitting on his head?

and typical cat behavior. pet me and give me food. You did that? Ok, no go away before I use your leg as a scratching post.

Hey remember Battletoads on the NES? That shit was HARD, yo.

Reply Samsinater (Guest), February 16th, 2012, 7:45 pm

So, is it just me, or does Poe have a sort of troll face in the second panel?

Reply NeoNeko (Guest), February 17th, 2012, 9:22 am

New for olds Yo, I´m not so new, but i love the comic, you think that one more is fine but i´m fron Latinoamerica (Venezuela) That mean, you got some fame X3 one frien of mine see it too, and she say that she prefer the Neko in the black and white fform, only his aparience. Me, i think he is cute X3

Other thing, you maybe going to have 30 Years, but you also spend most of that years make it this amaiezing Webcomic, and it ispiring, I want to make one, and a friend of mine will help me whit that X3.

Before i forget, Happy BirthDay! the cat is getting old X3

Reply Mithran (Guest), February 17th, 2012, 11:44 am

Battletoads I remember that game quite fondly... including the crossover with the double dragons.
I find a lot of the newer games are nowhere near as difficult as some of the older ones. I just fear the day when games play themselves when you pause the game.

@ NtKPaige I take it, Gar had showed you that little poster of Poe I had done?

Hello I do enjoy the comics. If you released a book of the older ones that were still in black and white some of the originals I might buy a book of it. I did enjoy the original starter comics. Short simple funny comics.

The current set up is still good. Some better then others but this is still a great over all series.

And it seems like it might just get you laid. Whats better then that.

Reply Tex, February 17th, 2012, 7:03 pm

I gotta agree with nameless guest guy.

While the newer comics look much nicer and follow a dedicated couple of scenarios (i love this plot design regardless) for the time being, older comics were just plain funnier, and had punchlines that made my sides hurt.

Oho, george...

We're trying to wrap up these storylines fairly shortly and get back to the more self-contained strips after that. They're a lot less bound by the requirements of a conventional narrative, and it's kind of more fun to write when you're not trying to make it obvious that there's a plot :P
