OK, and here's the full comic! Finishing this has put me a bit behind on wednesday's comic, so we're just going to do a big strip on Friday and call it even.

Edit: Someone's spotted one Bummy already - there are two Bummy in today's strip.

@ Neko What a great father, encouraging his son to be all that he can be

Reply Cardias (Guest), November 1st, 2011, 6:18 pm

I wonder if Neko still resents Keno appreciation day...

bummy is in second panel, hiding in the crack underneath poe

Cockleigh and Bummy look similar... Related perhaps? Is there someone out there making Bummy homunculi?

Reply GabrielsThoughts, November 1st, 2011, 9:50 pm

I wonder what a cockleigh would look like as a dullahan.

Reply NtKGar, November 2nd, 2011, 4:25 am

@GabrielsThoughts: Phallic, presumably.

@Delta Pangaea: Good theory!

A couple of people have said they want the superhero story to end. It has its fans, but in essence it's been a separate comic.

I want to bring the story to a satisfying conclusion, which shouldn't take too much longer, and then the denoument's going to be the more relationship-based character comedy of the earlier strips.

The whole 'Things Get Weird Omnibus' thing has been an experiment for me. The more action-oriented stuff has been to make me draw more dynamic poses and camera angles (and I think the artwork has improved substantially as a result), there's been quite a lot of world-building going on, character relationships have been stressed and tested, and between Neko's imagination and the world of magic the strip now occupies we're open for a lot of different types of stories now.

My focus has always been on character comedy, and I think the characters have become more defined and individual over the course of these stories. Once things get back to normal there's also enough fallout to keep the less manic relationship-based stories going for quite some time, plus I can do as much crazy crap in the background as I like and it all makes sense within the context of the now-established Nekoverse :)

I think the main problem with the superhero thing is it's just gone on too long. Perils of picking up an idea and running with it I suppose. We weren't entirely sure where we were going to go when Jeff first opened the all-marshmallow box of cereal, and every time we came up with a long-term plot outline the characters would do something unexpected, or a throwaway gag would become a plot point, or Keith would come up with something really weird and funny that I just found irresistable and we'd go off on a weird tangent that very often changed the course of the action. Essentially it's been improv 90% of the time. That's the way NtK's always been done, but it works better when the plot takes a back seat to the comedy. Future stories are going to be shorter self-contained episodes with big character arcs rolling around gently in the background like in the earlier comics.

It's going to be weird drawing Jeff without the hat and mask, though.

George the Fish and Prime This doesn't bode well for Keno and Poe... At least Neko will get all the food dropped on the floor again! And the super hero thing was a pretty interesting idea, and I've had fun reading it (especially the McJefferprefixes). I am glad it will be over soon though. I fear it will become like Pokemon which just should have died before it became too drawn out. Hmm... I just noticed we haven't seen George the fish or Prime lately.

you know floating upside down poe looks like a strangecreature with short arms and a ponytail

Reply NtKGar, November 3rd, 2011, 10:43 am

@RoboKitty: Prime's been on the bookcase in Alice's apartment whenever it's been shown in Moon Prison Adrastea. George the Fish will turn up whenever we come up with a good George the Fish story :)

@Guest: Hey you're right! It's got pink eyes and glowing yellow nipples! Awesome.

I've loved the super (or as McJefferstein says it "Duper" heroes. Tarquin used to be a guy that popped up sometimes to me, and some backstory and insight into his crazy world was awesome. I can understand wanting to move on to something, and the dual (later triple) storyline of Moon Prison, the search for Poe's witch, and our heroes (and lesser and major villians) was probably a pain to write all at once. I'll love the comic no matter where it goes, or what happens, or how many bummy are mercilessly killed to bring it about!

On that note, Is there anyway we can submit fan art?

I have to admit, I can't even remember what Jeff looks like WITHOUT his McJefferstein costume on o_O

Time to go through the archives again woo! :D
Kind of reminds me of when I was back in University and would read these on my laptop in lectures for some reason

@NtKGar or could be buttons on a skin tight black suit, like mario's coverall buttons XD

@Licourtrix: My main concern is that it's been confusing or difficult to follow, which might have lost me a couple of readers that would have stuck around otherwise. I'm proud of all three stories, but I'm not sure doing them all at the same time and hopping between them was really the best way to tell them. There have been thematic links and crossover events throughout, but the structure's been criticised and I can't honestly say the point's not valid. The duperheroes thing was in essence a spin-off occurring in the same archive as the main comic. It's a good comic, but it's not really Neko the Kitty.

Still, I'm more proud of it than worried about it, and I've learned a hell of a lot about drawing, composition, characterisation and storytelling. All humility aside, NtK's always been a good comic, and in the last year I think it's really started to become professional-quality. That's why I've been trying to figure out how to turn it into a career path :P

Also: I love getting fan art! You can send it to keno.cooper(at)gmail.com There isn't a separate fan art section, so if NtK fan art becomes a Thing it'll be going up on the main site on weekends, and then be moved to the intermission chapter between chapters 1 & 2 of the Things Get Weird Omnibus until I sort out a proper Gallery.

@Gar: Heh, do you remember that time I drank all that Mountain Dew and then ate those dodgy pickles and my nipples glowed yellow for a week?

Oh right, I don't either.

Reply NtKGar, November 4th, 2011, 10:21 am

Hey, it's no worse than that time you made the TARDIS cake with a full bottle of blue food colouring in it and we spent the next couple of days pooping green, and THAT actually happened :P

Reply NtKPaige, November 4th, 2011, 10:25 am

Actually it was a full bottle just in the cake mix, and about a half bottle in the icing. I'm surprised ALL we did was poo green >_< Though once I got over the horror, it was pretty funny.

Reply Licourtrix, November 4th, 2011, 2:25 pm

I dunno how different it is over there, but food colorings here are mainly just a concentrated dye in an alcohol solution. That said some pretty weird things can happen from eating a lot of the dye.

Awesome. I have two to take pictures of and mail in (my scanner broke) one is a drawing of Bummy. The other is a drawing of some of my favorite webcomics characters (featuring only ones I could draw) that features a grinning bummy watching other characters scare the crap out of one another.

Reply GabrielsThoughts, November 4th, 2011, 3:43 pm

That's right, I still watch cartoons I saw puss in boots yesterday... this webcomic is much funnier than the first half...I think it was the rotten egg that killed the movie. Also, I found Dreamworks idea of betrayal as exceptionally weak if not pathetic.

Anyway, based on what I've seen of the new Tintin movie, it looks like Disney and Miramax are raiding other franchises in order to make the story a gauranteed success. What's sad is that if they were going to do that anyway, why not pluck ideas from something like Aladdin or The Little Mermaid rather than The Mask and Ducktails. Heck, Why not use Princess Mononoke or Tailspin since they have the distribution rights and everything.

Poe in panel 2 is sooooo cute :'D

Reply Fluitaire (Guest), March 5th, 2013, 2:54 am

Hmmm. Would it be possible to get a Keno avatar of panel 3?
