Eagle vs Shark
So in the fine tradition of off-topic blogging here on Neko, I'm having a go.
It was one of those rare occasions yesterday, Gar found himself with a free night, so how better to spend it than, you guessed it, movie! Our first attempt, Tideland, proved way too extreme for the mood we were in. The opening scenes were shocking and for me much too much (I know I know, Gar calls me a wuss too), so we decided to have a go at a fairly unknown little Sundance film called Eagle vs Shark
The premise, in a nutshell, is Lily (beautifully played by Loren Horsley), a socially awkward cashier in a fast food burger barn develops a crush on socially inept Jarrod (the unfortunately hideous Jermain Clement from Flight of the Concords) and decides to follow him back to his hometown where he has to "kill a man" and insanity ensues, including Jarrod getting his backside handed to him by a guy in a wheel chair.
It's an odd little movie that nearly lost us in the first half an hour, but as the characters and plot settled it slowly revealed its hidden charms. There is a surprising depth to even the satellite characters, though I must confess I did spend most of the film wondering if both families were collectively missing chromosomes, or whether there is just something in the water in New Zealand.
fat·tas·tic adj \fat-'tas-tik\
1 a : based on fat: not skinny
b : created or seemingly created out of unrestrained jiggly
c : So filled with fattitude that it challenges physics
