Updating on the same page this week, so that may make the comments a bit confusing to readers coming to this in the archive.

I was on Google Plus earlier today (invites still available for anyone that wants 'em) and Samantha Wikan linked to an interesting article on videogames and neuroscience.

I've been liking Google+ so far, I actually like it a little better than Facebook, it's less cluttered. Speaking of which, I posted a close-up detail from today's comic on G+ and on the much-neglected Neko the Kitty facebook group. You can also follow Keno on facebook now. He's a remarkably competent typist.

I'm also going to remind everyone that we're going to be looking for guest strips and fan art in a couple of scenes' time for the next act break. Submissions to

Reply RaeofSunshine, August 22nd, 2011, 10:46 pm

haha yeah I had to do a double take on the costume changes.
I always liked these ^_^ it turned out good

also You should so sell bummy chairs!!

Reply NtKGar, August 23rd, 2011, 4:14 am

Oh I'd love one of those Bummy chairs, but have no idea how to go about getting them made. They'd be something of a specialty item, so it'd cost quite a lot to get one made, and then shipping would be expensive too.

I guess if NtK ever gets really popular we could license the design to an existing furniture company who'd have the infrastructure already in place to manufacture, store, and distribute them, but for that to be appealing to a furniture company we'd be talking almost Hello Kitty-esque levels of brand recognition.

So...get tweeting! :P

Hint hint? Or maybe if you know someone who sews, would foot the bill for fabric, heavy duty needles and styrofoam beans and asked her really nicely she would see if she could come up with something. . .after the other projects of course!

I thought every day was Neko appreciation day, or is that just me? :3

Reply magic oisin (Guest), August 25th, 2011, 6:23 am

its amazing you lot seem to have no life at all

Reply Enochia, August 25th, 2011, 9:52 am

Having no life is doing nothing. Doing something you love, then promoting the hell out of it and watching it grow is not doing nothing. We should all be so lucky as to have a talent we can share like this.

Reply magic oisin (Guest), August 26th, 2011, 5:50 am

the difference is i know that i have no life and revel in the fact i dont

I respectfully disagree with the game of MO For example, do you have more than $1000 dollars to spend each week in marketing? Have you learned to wallow in your failure and convince people that what you do takes no more forethought or effort than breathing? Can you live with the fact that you will be held in contempt and ridiculed by everyone around you and keep a smile on your face? Neko can do all of these things and more. Besides, If you truly knew you had no life you would be six feet under pushing up daisies. Not to mention unlocking the secrets of the universe or feeding microbes and insects.

Reply NtKGar, August 28th, 2011, 7:14 am

It takes as much forethought as goes into Neko the Kitty just for you to breathe? Wow, that's some awesome breath control right there. If we had more than $1,000 a week to spend on marketing, I'd probably have a better computer. Move that decimal point left two or three places.

Reply GabrielsThoughts, August 28th, 2011, 11:54 am

@ MO
I wasn't talking about your private universe. I meant the one we all have to share.

Oh please, we all know that if Neko was in charge of marketing campaign of the pay the rent initiative, instead of Keno and his honkey horn, you'd be rolling in dollar bills on a king sized mattress.

Speaking of which, You don't consider creating NTK like printing your own money? What is wrong with you? Creating comics is like paying yourself. The greater the risk the greater the pay off.

Actually, since my guess is that Neko has been around for at least 13years (Not sure just guessing. I'm not crazy enough to go through the entire archive and find out.) I'm surprised that you didn't make out like a rouge bandit considering it's still around and is one of the older webcomics on the net.

Well, it started in 2002, ran regularly until 2004, tailed off a bit in 2005 and stopped in June of that year. At that time it was bringing in about 6,000 uniques a day on the old site. I wish I'd realised at the time that this was something I could make money out of, but it was just a hobby to me.

Anyway, I picked it up again in December 2005, but my heart wasn't really in it and the comic updated irregularly until it came to a stop again in August 2007.

It wasn't until October the next year that I came back to the characters. I had been doodling at work (the doodles are now online as 'Yellow Sticky'), and with a little encouragement from my girlfriend at the time, came to realise that I can't NOT draw comics.

Anyway, I picked up with that weird whitespace storyline in 2008 and started updating twice a week. At this point I was back down to zero readers and wasn't really doing much to market the site, I was happy enough just slapping them up online and if anyone came upon the site, well...good. I was updating twice a week in black and white at the time, again as a pure hobbyist.

Anyway, the upload script program thingy on my old website kind of sucks, so after a while I decided to set up this mirror on Smackjeeves, this was in September 2010. One thing this site has that the old one didn't is this nifty little comments feature. Before that I'd get the occasional fanmail and stuff (which always made my day), but otherwise not a whole lot of continuous affirmation that people were indeed reading and enjoying the damn thing.

So...that's when we started promoting it. In absolute terms, Neko's been around since 2002, but it's only really been gathering an audience since late 2010. That's why we keep asking people to promote the site on facebook and google and the like. We want readers to promote it because it's not at the point where it's effectively promoting itself. We're making dozens of dollars a month off advertising, but the comic hasn't gone properly viral yet.

Self disclosure of any kind from me is rare. I never really understood the fascination with Facebook, live journal, Twitter, and all the rest of the popular social media networks and institutions that will more or less replaced within the next few years.

I am currently working on making one of my late 2002 thru 2003 comics into a Flash animation. I'm also working on a documentary film with footage that I've taken during my last year in college.

I'm looking into setting up a wedding photography business so I purchased a buttload of financial management books before I graduated that I'm still reading.

I've recently moved to northeast Las Vegas and If I can't figure out how to generate an income from home by October I'll have to get a job to pay off my student loans.

I've already finished my resume the year before last and I figure all I have to do is finish my flash cartoon and the documentary to show prospective employers what I can do.

I also wanted to make a machinema animation and 3d cartoon using blender, and I really want to make a live action short film to show off my skills.

I also want to write at least one script for a short film, and write a short work of fiction before I look for work. Sadly, because of where I live people generally don't take anyone's word on anything.

My body language skills were so poor that one of my acting teachers thought I was lying while I was telling the truth.

I've also been reading books on persuasion, marketing, bulshiting, neurolinguistic programing, office strategy, Interpersonal communication, comics, and sales. This is mostly because, the last time I had a job they didn't pay me for seven weeks and they were still trying to figure out ways of using me without paying for my services. Fortunately I wasn't alone so I had the opportunity to comiserate through third parties.

I've also been reading independent comics, newspaper comics, webcomics, mainstream comics and tweenie bopper books in addition to the marketing and finance books on my reading list.

Appearently, I'm working with someone on a fantastical historical drama that is based on actual events but not really. The story is going to use violence to contrast with lessons of nonviolent communication and coping skills which will bring awareness to the oldest con game of abuse. Which, in case you were wondering is the "Mine is better than yours" Game.

I'm also looking into becoming an ordained minister or paranormal investigator. I can't believe how simple the process is in comparison to going college. I still need to print up business cards and obtain a business license for... Nevermind.

So Keith,Gar what have you been up too?

It's wonderful to have permission to officially goose you. Thank you, I was hoping to beat MO. Don't expect me to comment as much now that I have an official title.

Keith, respect dude. You did it, you actually did it, you found a way to include a Spiderman quote.

I am in awe of your spider-man quotability. Also you do look fairly cool with chicken legs. Careful with those chickeny claws though, they're hell on upholstery.

Re: Bummy Chairs Actually, shipping would not be that much of a problem. You make the chair as a bean bag and ship it without stuffing. It would be a little larger than a shower curtain all folded up in a package. Beans are available at hobby stores.
