Pauline was Mario's girlfriend in the original Donkey Kong, before he relocated to the Mushroom Kingdom, started speaking in an exagerrated Italian accent instead of his native Brooklyn accent, switched his distinctive red-and-brown overalls for a distinctive red-and-blue, adopted his brother as his son, switched careers from everything from Doctor to tennis pro, and changed his name from Jumpman Mario to Mario Mario.

That's Bummy, not Cockleigh. They're the same colour, and a similar design, but Bummy's got longer legs and doesn't have the helmet bit.

Mario the Animal Abuser Mario is a animal beater. He has beaten up his pet ape DK (read the story behind Donkey Kong the game), a vast array of turtles (the koopas), giant caterpillars, moles...
He even punches Yoshi in the back of the head to make him eat something.
Good thing for him that the SPCA doesn't have jurisdiction in the Mushroom Kingdom
